Novel Studies
-Every 4-5 chapters students complete a GoogleClassroom form that includes multiple choice questions on comprehension, vocabulary and critical concept practice.
- A tier two vocabulary word for each chapter is written on an index cards with the definition. Cards are used for review games and study sessions. Vocabulary test includes; correct use of the word in a sentence, synonyms, and antonyms.
-Each chapter has class discussion questions for whole class, pairs, or small group.

Out of My Mind
LA concepts; character development, character analysis (year book page), setting, summarizing
Social concepts; everyone is not the same and need different accommodations. Students experiment with using their own communication board and mapping handicap routes at their favorite places.
Writing; If you met the main character what would you do together? Be sure to consider her needs and include dialogue.

Novel Studies
Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
LA concepts; Point of View, figurative language, Plot, theme
Continued practice; character analysis and summarizing using a travel journal, compare book to the play
Writing; Edward meets a lot of different people, rewrite a scene from a different characters point of view. Or write what happened to that character after Edward left? Be sure to have a clear beginning middle and end.
